Bring Him Home~A Song For Sunday

This is a song that I’ve sung with our Box Elder Symphonic Choir. We’ve sung it in lots of patriotic concerts. I wanted to share it with you for Memorial Day. I like it best sung my Colm Wilkinson.

What a song. What a singer. From reverence and trust and faith, to passion, boldness, meekness, nostalgia and regret, pity,  courage,  the most utter desperation; to selfless love and through it all, the most exquisite and gentlest tenderness. Amazing. Colm Wilkinson has passion and incredible emotion in the way he does this song. He's begging God to help and offering himself up in exchange.

Bring Him Home Lyrics, from Les Miserables

(Valjean is standing over Marius at the barricade)
VALJEAN

God on high
Hear my prayer
In my need
You have always been there
He is young
He's afraid
Let him rest
Heaven blessed.
Bring him home
Bring him home
Bring him home.

He's like the son I might have known
If God had granted me a son.
The summers die
One by one
How soon they fly
On and on
And I am old
And will be gone.

Bring him peace
Bring him joy
He is young
He is only a boy

You can take
You can give
Let him be
Let him live
If I die, let me die
Let him live
Bring him home
Bring him home
Bring him home.

Called to Serve~A Song For Sunday

This group of missionaries did a really nice job on this song. You can tell that they have a testimony of the work they are doing as they express it in this song.  It makes me think of Chauncey and all the time he spends on his music, playing the piano and the violin. Young boys don’t express their feeling about things much, but I feel Chauncey’s testimony as he practices playing hymns on the piano. I hope someday he will be able to share his music when he serves a mission.

Called to Serve

Called to serve Him, heav’nly King of glory,
Chosen e’er to witness for his name,
Far and wide we tell the Father’s story,
Far and wide his love proclaim.

[Chorus]
Onward, ever onward, as we glory in his name;
Onward, ever onward, as we glory in his name;
Forward, pressing forward, as a triumph song we sing.
God our strength will be; press forward ever,
Called to serve our King.

Called to know the richness of his blessing—
Sons and daughters, children of a King—
Glad of heart, his holy name confessing,
Praises unto him we bring.

Beautiful Savior~A Song For Sunday

I love hearing children sing! This song done so well by this children’s choir. This is such a simple message if we just let it in to our hearts.

I couldn’t decide which version I like best. This lady has such a beautiful clear voice, the words just touch me in kind of a haunting way. Which one do you like?

Beautiful Savior

Fair is the sunshine,

Fairer the moonlight

And all the stars in heav’n above;

Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer

And brings to all the world his love.

Fair are the meadows,

Fairer the woodlands,

Robed in the flowers of blooming spring;

Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer.

He makes the sorrowing spirit sing.

Beautiful Savior! Lord of the nations!

Son of God and Son of Man!

Thee will I honor, praise, and give glory,

Give praise and glory evermore! Evermore!

Robert Pierre - New Christian Recording Artist

I recently heard about a new recording artist, Robert Pierre. He's an 18 year old high school senior. A very talented 18 year old. I love all 4 of his new Contemporary Christian songs!

You can listen to 4 of Robert Pierre's songs at Noisetrade. Once on NoiseTrade, you simply click the Robert Pierre EP image to open the online player. You'll see the 4 songs available: JESUS, YOU HOLD ME NOW, BREAKING MY HEART, IDENTITY.

AND, if you're interested in downloading all four songs for FREE to have on your own computer or ipod, NoiseTrade.com provides that downloadable zip file of the 4 songs when you enter your email address, postal code & click NEXT (just under the online player). After you click NEXT, NoiseTrade will email you a link that you can quickly click to have the 4 songs downloaded. I just tried it, and it works. :)

If you want to see the lyrics, here are links for those: Jesus, You Hold Me Now, Breaking My Heart, Identity

With music, I'm all about the lyrics. To me, the lyrics are first, and the music second. I love good music, too, but it's the lyrics that make a song great. That make we want to listen to a song over and over again. To tell others about the song.

I'm finding it very hard to pick a favorite out of these four songs. Here are a couple of lyrics:

From Jesus:

All my concerns, my deepest hurt My Saviour's been where I am Life comes undone and there's no one Who understands like He can So even when I stumble and my world is torn apart There is One whose holding my heart Any desperate day One word I can pray All I know to say Jesus

From You Hold Me Now:

On that day when I see All that you have for me When I see You face to face There surrounded by Your grace All my fears swept away In the light of your embrace Where Your love is all I need And forever I am free

No weeping, no hurt or pain, no suffering You hold me now, You hold me now No darkness, no cycling, no hiding You hold me now, You hold me now, You hold me now

See what I mean? Awesome lyrics! I guess, if I really had to pick a favorite, it would be Jesus. As of right now. lol

Robert's full-length CD will be released later this summer. Join Robert's Facebook page to keep up to date with his latest news. He manages his own page. :) And if you want to see Robert doing one of his favorite things, play basketball, you can see a video of Robert doing some water basketball trick shots.

I hope you listen to Robert Pierre's new songs. I really did love them. He's a very talented singer. I can't wait to share these songs with my kids. They're going to love them!

High On The Mountain Top~A Song For Sunday

This is such a great song. This group of young women did a beautiful job singing it.

High On The Mountain Top

High on the mountain top
A banner is unfurled.
Ye nations, now look up;
It waves to all the world.
In Deseret's sweet, peaceful land,
On Zion's mount behold it stand!

For God remembers still
His promise made of old
That he on Zion's hill
Truth's standard would unfold!
Her light should there attract the gaze
Of all the world in latter days.

His house shall there be reared,
His glory to display,
And people shall be heard
In distant lands to say:
We'll now go up and serve the Lord,
Obey his truth, and learn his word.

For there we shall be taught
The law that will go forth,
With truth and wisdom fraught,
To govern all the earth.
Forever there his ways we'll tread,
And save ourselves with all our dead.

A Child’s Prayer~A Song For Sunday

This is another favorite song. I love the words and the harmony.

A Child’s Prayer

Heavenly Father, are you really there?
And do you hear and answer ev’ry child’s prayer?
Some say that heaven is far away,
But I feel it close around me as I pray.
Heavenly Father, I remember now
Something that Jesus told disciples long ago:
“Suffer the children to come to me.”
Father, in prayer I’m coming now to thee.

Pray, he is there;
Speak, he is list’ning.
You are his child;
His love now surrounds you.
He hears your prayer;
He loves the children.
Of such is the kingdom, the kingdom of heav’n.

I Stand all Amazed and He is Risen~A Song For Sunday

I love the arrangements of these two songs together.I want to share something else with you this Easter morning, my testimony.

I testify that Jesus Christ is the Savior of this world and the only begotten Son of God in the flesh. He did in fact suffer the atonement in the garden of Gethsemane and was nailed to the cross where he laid down his life for all mankind of his own free will; a gift of  ultimate love. Jesus was then resurrected on the 3rd day severing the bands of death forever. I love my elder brother with all my heart and soul.

I Stand All Amazed

I stand all amazed at the love Jesus offers me,
Confused at the grace that so fully He proffers me;
I tremble to know that for me He was crucified,
That for me, a sinner, He suffered, He bled and died.

O it is wonderful that He should care for me
Enough to die for me!
O it is wonderful, wonderful to me!

I marvel that He would descend from His throne divine
To rescue a soul so rebellious and proud as mine;
That He should extend His great love unto such as I,
Sufficient to own, to redeem, and to justify.

I think of His side, pierced and bleeding to pay the debt,
Such mercy, such love and devotion can I forget?
No, no! I will praise and adore at the mercy seat,
And testify all my desires He doth fully meet.

He is Risen Hymn

Said the angel, “He is risen!”
Tell it out with joyful voice:
He has burst His three days’ prison;
Let the whole wide earth rejoice:
Death is conquered, we are free,
Christ has won the victory.

Come, ye sad and fearful hearted,
With glad smile and radiant brow!
Death’s long shadows have departed;
All our woes are over now,
Due to passion that He bore
Sin and pain can vex no more.

Come, with high and holy hymning,
Chant our Lord’s triumphant day;
Not one darksome cloud is dimming
Yonder glorious morning ray,
Breaking over the purple east:
Brighter far our Easter feast.

He is risen, He is risen!
He has opened heaven’s gate:
We are free from sin’s dark prison,
Risen to a holier state;
And a brighter Easter beam
On our longing eyes shall stream.

We'll Bring the World His Truth~A Song For Sunday

This is Browny Camel playing this arrangement when he was 9 years old. He is an amazing pianist. Browny has his own YouTube channel.

We'll Bring the World His Truth

We have been born, as Nephi of old,
To goodly parents who love the Lord.
We have been taught, and we understand,
That we must do as the Lord commands.

We have been saved for these latter days
To build the kingdom in righteous ways.
We hear the words our prophet declares:
“Let each who’s worthy go forth and share.”

We know his plan, and we will prepare,
Increase our knowledge through study and prayer.
Daily we’ll learn until we are called
To take the gospel to all the world.

Chorus
We are as the army of Helaman.
We have been taught in our youth.
And we will be the Lord’s missionaries
To bring the world his truth.

The Music of Margaret Bernstein

I really enjoy Margaret Bernstein’s music! Listen to this song~

About Margaret Bernstein

New York City born Margaret Bernstein is an award winning singer-songwriter, composer and flutist with a unique voice, dynamic lyrics, and a positive and compelling message. Unlike many other songwriters of the pop-rock genre, Margaret is a classically trained musician who is an accomplished instrumental performer as well as a composer. Her musical compositions, which include elements from a diverse spectrum of styles and genres, have been inspired in part by her personal experiences and travels, which include four pilgrimages to India. Her live performances are a testament to Margaret’s amazing versatility, as she quickly segues from playing a Bach Partita on her flute to passionately playing the piano on an upbeat pop song. What makes Margaret stand out, however, is not only her eclectic and interesting background and level of accomplishment as a musician, but also her ability to communicate honestly and personally with her audience at heart level through her songs and music.

Despite her engaging career, Margaret manages to balance her musical endeavors with her other responsibilities and interests, which include hiking, cross-country skiing, and riding her horse, Reba. She is also intrigued by the medieval history of East Sussex, England, where her family has a residence and where Margaret also has a musical following in addition to her following in the United States and Canada. Margaret currently lives on her farm in upstate New York, where she resides with her fourteen-year-old son, Julian, and their beloved animals.

Margaret’s album Distant Thunder will be out in the fall of this year.

Give Said The Little Stream~A Song For Sunday

I remember singing this song when I was a child. I’ve always loved it’s simple message of, Give. It is so easy to hurry on our way and not worry about or help others. But when we do help others it can make our own burdens seem lighter.

Give Said The Little Stream

"Give," said the little stream
"Give, oh, give, give, oh, give
Give," said the little stream
As it hurried down the hill
"I'm small, I know, but wherever I go
The fields grow greener still."

Singing, singing all the day
"Give away, oh, give away"
Singing, singing all the day
"Give, oh, give away."

"Give," said the little rain
"Give, oh, give, give, oh, give
Give," said the little rain
As it fell upon the flowers
"I'll raise their drooping heads again,"
As it fell upon the flowers.

Singing, singing all the day
"Give away, oh, give away"
Singing, singing all the day
"Give, oh, give away."

"Give," then, what you can give
"Give, oh, give, give, oh, give
Give," then, what you can give
There is something all can give
Do as the streams and blossoms do
And for other people live.

Singing, singing all the day
"Give away, oh, give away"
Singing, singing all the day
"Give, oh, give away."

Small Enough~A Song For Sunday

I am so thankful for a loving Heavenly Father who hears my prayers. He sees my tears and sends me the strength I need to carry on. I know he does all this and more for me because he loves me and knows me. He sends me comfort so that I truly know that I am never alone….prayer is my link to him. I am truly blessed to know that I have a loving Heavenly Father.

Small Enough

Oh, great God, be small enough to hear me now
there were times when I was crying
from the dark of Daniel's den
and I have asked you once or twice
if you would part the sea again
but tonight I do not need a fiery pillar in the sky
just wanna know you're gonna hold me if I start to cry
oh, great God, be small enough to hear me now

Oh, great God, be close enough to feel you now
there have been moments when i could not
face goliath on my own
and how could I forget we've marched around
our share of Jericho
but I will not be setting out a fleece for you tonight
just wanna know that everything will be alright
oh great god, be close enough to feel you now

All praise and all honor be
to the god of ancient mysteries
whose every sign and wonder turn the pages of our history but tonight my heart is heavy
and I cannot keep from whispering this prayer
"are you there?"

And I know you could leave writing on the wall
that’s just for me
or send wisdom while I'm sleeping,
like in Solomon's sweet dreams
but I don't need the strength of Samson
or a chariot in the end
just want to know that you still know how many hairs
are on my head
oh great God, be small enough to hear me now

Be Still My Soul~A Song For Sunday

I came across this video of Alex Boye this morning. He is an amazing singer. Listen to his story first, he is an inspiring man with an inspiring voice!

Be Still, My Soul

Be still, my soul: The Lord is on thy side;
With patience bear thy cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In ev’ry change he faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: Thy best, thy heav’nly Friend
Thru thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Be still, my soul: Thy God doth undertake
To guide the future as he has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul: The waves and winds still know
His voice who ruled them while he dwelt below.

Be still, my soul: The hour is hast’ning on
When we shall be forever with the Lord,
When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: When change and tears are past,
All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.

A Strength Beyond My Own~A Song For Sunday

I love the pictures that are in the video with this song! This song is even more uplifting with these special pictures of the temple. Chauncey said his seminary teacher showed this video for them.

This song is about how we are strengthened by the Temple and the blessings found there. It truly makes me feel like we can find our Savior if we earnestly search for him. When we find him, we have strength beyond our own.

Strength Beyond My Own

Heaven’s light flows through the windows

warming even walls of stone.

In the refuge of the temple

I find strength beyond my own.

I can feel the pow’r of Heaven

As I stand on holy ground

and the Spirit whispers what I long to learn.

Eyes are touched with understanding

I can see beyond this world.

It’s the place I reach for Heaven

and it reaches in return.

Filled with purpose filled with power,

granted gifts to lift the world.

In god’s house and in his presence

I am filled with strength to serve.

I can feel the pow’r of Heaven as I stand on holy ground,

and the Spirit whispers what I long to learn.

Eyes are touched with understanding

I can see beyond this world.

It’s the place I reach for Heaven and it reaches in return.

Each Life That Touches Ours For Good~A Song For Sunday

What excuses do we make for not following the Lord? How long will we procrastinate the day of our salvation? What will you give in exchange for your soul? None of us knows how long we have on this earth. None of us knows when our time will come. I am left to ponder what I have done with my life. When it will be all said and done, it doesn’t matter how rich or poor we are. It doesn’t matter how talented or beautiful. What matters and what will last long after we are gone is the cheerful happiness we spread to everyone around us, the lives we touch and help and our powerful example of Jesus Christ that will live on in the hearts of those we touch. These are the things that really matter.

Each Life That Touches Ours for Good

By~Karen Lynn Davidson

Each life that touches ours for good
Reflects thine own great mercy, Lord.
Thou sendest blessings from above
Through words and deeds of those who love.

What greater gift dost thou bestow,
What greater goodness can we know
Than Christ-like friends, whose gentle ways
Strengthen our faith, enrich our days.

When such a friend from us departs
We hold forever in our hearts
A sweet and hallowed memory,
Bringing us nearer, Lord, to thee.

For worthy friends whose lives proclaim
Devotion to the Savior's name,
Who bless our days with peace and love,
We praise thy goodness Lord above.

The Lord’s Prayer~A Song For Sunday

I just love scripture put to music!

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,

the power and the glory,

for ever and ever.

Amen.

Love One Another~A Song For Sunday

I love this song and this morning I found some additional lyrics that discuss some of the events during and after the Last Supper, where the commandment to "Love One Another" was given.

On this sacred night
Jerusalem slept while the lanterns burned bright
In this upper room where in rev'rence the Lord
Sat with his apostles and taught them his word,
Taught them in his final hour.

Chorus

On this holy eve
He told his apostles that soon he must leave,
But they must take courage for when he was gone,
His work would continue, his kingdom live on!
And in this sacred hour he said...

Chorus

At this sacred time
He served his apostles the bread and the wine
And told them, "Do this in remembrance of me
And then shall my Spirit continue to be
Always with you when I go."

Chorus

Within this great hall
He taught how a master's the servant of all
And, as an example, arose from his seat,
Bent down on his knees and then washed their feet.
And in this sacred hour he said...

Chorus

Oh sacred day,
When he left for the garden to pray,
And that all men might live, how he bled,
Then was captured by wicked men,
And by them was he taken and tried,
On Calvary's hill, he suffered and died!
How he loved them, and he told them...

Love One Another

As I have loved you, love one another.

This new commandment, love one another.

By this shall men know ye are my disciples If ye have love one to another.

Musical Stairs Make Walking Fun!

I want to go try these out, they look fun!

There Was A Green Hill Far Away~A Song For Sunday

This hymn was written by Cecil Alexander as she sat up one night with her seriously sick daughter. Many times, traveling to town to shop, she had passed a small grassy mound, just outside the old city wall of Derry, Ireland. It always made her think of Calvary, and it came to mind as she wrote this hymn.

There Is A Green Hill Far Away

There is a green hill far away,
Outside a city wall,
Where the dear Lord was crucified,
Who died to save us all.

O dearly, dearly, has He loved,
And we must love Him, too,
And trust in His redeeming blood,
And try His works to do.

We may not know, we cannot tell,
What pains He had to bear;
But we believe it was for us
He hung and suffered there.

There was no other good enough
To pay the price of sin;
He only could unlock the gate
Of heaven and let us in.

O dearly, dearly has He loved,
And we must love Him, too,
And trust in His redeeming blood,
And try His works to do.

Come, Come Ye Saints~A Song For Sunday

Maybe it’s because my hand hurts, but I keep thinking of this song. The early saints went through more than I’ll ever have to endure. Watching this video reminds me that my problems are very small in comparison.

Come, Come Ye Saints

Come, come, ye saints, no toil nor labor fear;
But with joy, wend your way.
Though hard to you this journey may appear,
Grace shall be as your day.
’Tis better far for us to strive
Our useless cares from us to drive;
Do this, and joy your hearts will swell
All is well! All is well!

Why should we mourn or think our lot is hard?
’Tis not so, all is right.
Why should we think to earn a great reward,
If we now shun the fight?
Gird up your loins; fresh courage take;
Our God will never us forsake,
And soon we’ll have this tale to tell,
All is well! All is well!

We’ll find the place which God for us prepared,
In His house full of light,
Where none shall come to hurt or make afraid;
There the saints will shine bright.
We’ll make the air with music ring,
Shout praises to our God and King;
Above the rest these words we’ll tell,
All is well! All is well!

And should we die before our journey’s through,
Happy day! All is well!
We then are free from toil and sorrow, too;
With the just we shall dwell!
But if our lives are spared again
To see the saints their rest obtain,
O how we’ll make this chorus swell,
All is well! All is well!
